Embassy of the United States Belmopan, Belize

In the spirit of International Women's Day, U.S. Embassy Belmopan will recognize outstanding Belizean women for their inspirational accomplishments and positive contributions to their communities.

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce a call for nominations for the "Woman of the Year 2011" contest. Nominations will be reviewed and a winner will be chosen by a panel comprised of representatives from the U.S. Embassy and the Belizean community.

Nominees should be individuals who have made positive contributions in their community. Successful candidates will be women who have made advancements in the following areas: human rights, strengthening democratic institutions; youth development; environmental preservation and advocacy; sustainable development; and women's advancement.

Nomination Requirements:

• A woman who is at least 18 years old.
• A full citizen of Belize who permanently resides in Belize (nominees who are dual-citizens or with residency only, will not be considered). Please submit a photocopy of a current Belize Passport, Voter's Identification, or Social Security Card.

U.S. Embassy Belmopan personnel and their immediate families are not eligible for participation.

Method of Nomination/Selection:

• Nomination may be made for Woman of the Year by any Belizean individual or group.
• A standard nomination form (PDF 88KB) will be provided for all nominations.
• Current pictures or videos of the nominee participating in their community activities are encouraged.
• Nominations are due no later than February 11, 2011, 5 PM.
• A panel of U.S. Embassy and Belizean community leaders will review all applications and select the recipient of the award based on the criteria stated above.

Date and Place of the Awards Ceremony:

• The awards ceremony will take place on March 8, 2011 in Belmopan.
