Warden Message - Security Notice - December 29, 2006

The execution of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, who was found guilty of crimes against humanity, may prompt unrest and anti-American demonstrations in various locations throughout the world. We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the area of demonstrations and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. American citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance, be aware of local events, and take the appropriate steps to bolster their personal security.

American citizens may contact the U.S. Embassy Belmopan at 501-822-4011 for further information. For after-hours emergencies, please dial 501-610-5030 and ask to speak with the Embassy’s Duty Officer. The U.S. Embassy Belmopan’s web site is: http://belize.usembassy.gov/.

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the State Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution Public Announcement, Travel Warnings, and other Public Announcements can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States or Canada, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. Federal holidays).
