Step Afrika! Visits Belize

The Embassy of the United States of America in Belmopan is pleased to announce that Step Afrika! is visiting Belize July 14 to 18, as part of a three country Central American tour.

Step Afrika! is the first professional company in the world dedicated to the tradition of "stepping," a unique dance tradition that employs the body as an instrument to create intricate rhythms through a combination of footsteps, hand claps and spoken words. While stepping's roots are in Africa, historically African-American fraternities and sororities have made it an important part of the United States' artistic and cultural heritage.

Step Afrika! has performed extensively for audiences in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean, using their dance tradition as an educational tool for young people.

Step Afrika! plans to appear on local television and radio shows, host workshops with Belizean dancers and students, and give free performances in Belize City, Dangriga, and Belmopan.

Some performances involve collaboration with local music and dance groups. The U.S. Embassy takes this opportunity to extend an invitation to all those who wish to enjoy the performances of Step Afrika!
