Press Release - October 25, 2007
“The U.S. Embassy Belmopan recently identified and halted an illegal visa procurement scheme in which a number of Belizeans attempted to obtain U.S. visas fraudulently. Together with the Belize Defence Force (BDF), the U.S. Embassy investigated the illegal visa scheme whereby a trusted BDF corporal helped imposters apply for U.S. visas through fraud and misrepresentation.
The BDF corporal involved was found guilty at a military summary trial, sentenced to six months imprisonment and dishonorably discharged from military service. All visas issued as a result of his fraudulent activities have been revoked and anyone using them will be denied entry to, or removed from, the United States.
The U.S. Embassy’s primary concern is always for the safety of U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, and Belizeans traveling to the U.S. We hope all Belizeans understand our need to remain vigilant to prevent fraudulent visa schemes and recognize our dedicated efforts to help ensure the safety of all travelers. If you have information concerning this or any other fraud scheme, please contact the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section at 501-822-4011 or via e-mail address ConsulBelize@state.gov.”
