On Thursday, October 18 at the Ministry of Human Development in Belmopan, U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter presented a grant of over US$80,000 to the Minister of Human Development Sylvia Flores for an Anti-trafficking in Persons Program.
The grant aims to support victim assistance programs, judiciary training, public awareness programs and the refurbishment of a shelter for trafficking victims.
“Our hope is that this financial assistance will assist Belize in continuing its work to rid itself of this deeply dehumanizing form of exploitation”, said Ambassador Dieter. “This funding, combined with the hard work and dedication of the Ministry of Human Development working together with the U.S. Embassy, is evidence of the prominent commitment of the United States to stand by and support our partners to combat this modern form of human slavery”.
The U.S. Embassy wishes to congratulate the Minister and Chief Executive Officer from the Ministry of Human Development as recipients of this Anti-Trafficking in Persons grant award. The U.S. Ambassador closed by saying, “We look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have and believe working together we can make a difference, and together we can build a safer, freer, and more prosperous world for all”.
