Immigrant Visas

General Information

All individuals who wish to move to the United States permanently should apply for an immigrant visa.

Immigrant visas are petitioned-based - that is, a relative, an employer, or the applicant must submit a petition to the U.S. Citizens and Immigration Services (USCIS) before they can apply for the visa.  All I-130 petitions must now be filed directly with U.S. Citizen and Immigation Services.  The U.S. Embassy Belmopan can accept I-130 petitions only under rare circumstances for humanitarian reasons.

Immigrant visas generally fall into three broad categories: family-based, employment-based, and the diversity visa. The U.S. Embassy in Belize processes all categories of immigrant visas for qualified applicants.
