Economic/Commercial Assistant - Vacancy Assistant No. 2009-014
The United States Embassy Belmopan has an opening for an Economic/Commercial Assistant. The successful candidate will be required to obtain a security clearance and undergo a medical examination.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
Incumbent gathers information and drafts reports on economic, commercial, HIV/AIDS, and labor developments in Belize
Assists U.S. and Belizean commercial visitors and callers with business inquiries and trade information;
Promotes U.S. commercial opportunities and trade objectives in Belize;
Proposes, promotes, and organizes official commercial functions and trade show exhibits;
Establishes and maintains contact with appropriate representatives of the government, public and private sectors, and non-governmental organizations in support of these functions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Political Science, Business Administration, International Relations, or a closely related field is required.
• Four years of economic, business administration, or political-related experience are required.
• Level IV (Fluent working knowledge) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required.
• Applicant must possess a sound understanding of Belize’s business, economic, and political environment, and be familiar with local business practices, marketing channels, trade associations, local trade laws, and government policies relating to trade and foreign investment.
• Good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel is required.
