The Narcotics Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy has donated Spanish language training materials to the Belize Central Prison to support the prison’s on-going drug rehabilitation program.

The rehabilitation program is designed to help inmates address criminal and addictive thinking, to stimulate new ways of thinking to promote behavioral change and to give inmates the tools they need for sustained recovery once they reenter society.  The books include: Intake and Orientation, Criminal and Addictive Thinking and Drug and Alcohol Education.

The Demand Reduction Project of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Bureau of the U.S. Department of State funded the purchase and shipment of these materials, which supplement English language manuals previously provided by the Embassy.  The total value of assistance to the program amounts to over US$7,000.
