U.S. Embassy hosts 7th Annual Made in USA Exhibition (August 15-16, 2008)

The United States Embassy in Belize is pleased to announce its seventh annual Made in the USA Exhibition taking place at the Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The two-day event will feature a variety of American products, services, and investments in Belize.  The opening ceremony and presentations will commence at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 15 and are open to the public.  (more)










Independence Day (July 4, 2008)

On Friday, July 4, the U.S. Embassy hosted its first ever July Fourth celebration at the new embassy compound in Belize's capital Belmopan. 

"Our newly constructed Embassy represents the United States’ strong commitment to Belize as well as the longstanding, close relationship between our two nations," said U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter.  (more)






Winners of HIV Poster Competition 2008 Announced (June 25, 2008)

U.S. Ambasador Robert J. Dieter hosted twenty-one student winners of the 2008 HIV Poster Competition at the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan.  The poster competition, funded by the U.S. Ambassador's HIV Prevention Progam and managed by the Ministry of Education Health and Family Life Education Unit, offers an opportunity for primary school students in Standards IV, V and VI around the country to create artwork on stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV and AIDS. 

"We hosted this gathering to celebrate the creativity of the students whose unique artwork will advocate for HIV/AIDS prevention, help to reduce stigma and discrimination towards persons living with HIV/AIDS, and raise young Belizeans’ awareness about the disease", said Ambassador Dieter at the ceremony.  (more)



Barbara Walsh conducts training on investigative journalism in Belize (June 24, 2008)

U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter welcomed  investigative journalist Barbara Walsh to Belize saying, "All forms of media everywhere, whether television, radio, or print, struggle to present the public with unbiased, comprehensive, and accurate reporting and a media market llike Belize's has its unique challenges for conducting investigative journalism.  It is our intention that the workshops to be held in the next few days will contribute to an exhcange of ideas - ideas that can help the Belizean media to grow in influence and provide an opportunity to build relationships between journalists in Belize and the United States".  (more)






Cuba Solidarity Day (May 16, 2008)

On May 21, the President of the United States will host an event in support of a "Day of Solidarity with the Cuban People" to focus on the plight of prisoners of conscience and the lack of civil and political freedoms in Cuba. 

This date coincides with a period when Cubans all over the island commemorate Cuban patriots who have suffered at the hands of the regime for the cause of freedom and human rights.  The people of Cuba need to know that they have world-wide solidarity and support for their efforts to achieve genuine political and economic change in Cuba.

U.S. Military "Beyond the Horizons" Humanitarian Exercise (May 13, 2008)

U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter announced the newest initiative of the U.S. Southern Command called "Beyond the Horizons".  The Beyond the Horizons program builds on the previous accomplishments of New Horizons Exercises, which deploys U.S. military personnel to nations in the region to train while conducting humanitarian exercises. 

"The Beyond the Horizons program builds upon those previous efforts.  The purpose of the program is to follow-up with oversight of previous constructionprojects to make needed adjustments and repairs.  The exercise thus porvides a range of events for U.S. troops to exchange knowledge with host nation officials and the Belize Defence Force", says Ambassador Dieter.   (more)

U.S. Ambassador supports HIV Awareness for the Visually and Hearing Impaired (May 5, 2008)

On May 5, the Community Agency for the Rehabilitation and Education for Persons with Disabilities (CARE) Belize officially launched the country's first Braille manual on HIV/AIDS awareness for the visually impaired and a sign language DVD for the hearing impaired. 

The production of the manual and DVD was funded by the 2007 U.S. Ambassador's HIV Prevention Program.  Each year, this program assists Belizean NGO's and other organizations address HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
