U.S. Ambassador Hands Over Trucks to the Belize Defence Force and the Belize National Coast Guard Service (March 27, 2008)

 Trucks donated to the Belize Defence Force and the Belize National Coast Guard Service.
On March 27, at the Belize Defence Force (BDF) Headquarters, U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter handed over three Isuzu Troop carriers to the BDF and two heavy duty trucks to the Belize National Coast Guard Service (BNCG).  These trucks, valued at over US$214,000, were donated under the Foreign Military Financing Program and the U.S. Department of Defense Counter-Drug Assistance Program.

"This donation of equipment is the result of cooperation and planning that will benefit the people of Belize and assist the BDF and BNCG in their security mission.  It's another example of good work through partnership," said Ambassador Dieter.  (more)

For Immediate Release by the Office of the Press Secretary - President Bush Meets with Prime Ministers of the Bahamas, Barbados, and Belize. (March 20, 2008)

President George W. Bush and Caribbean leaders Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham of the Bahamas, Prime Minister David Thompson of Barbados and Belize Prime Minister Dean Barrow meet in the Cabinet Room Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the White House.

When asked about the meeting, President Bush commented, "Secretary Rice and I have had the pleasure of welcoming three of our neighbors -- neighborhood's strong leaders: the Prime Ministers of the Bahamas, Barbados and Belize.  And we had a discussion like you would expect neighbors to have -- how do we work together for our mutual benefit. We talked about trade and tourism. We talked about how to make sure that our security needs are met without interrupting the ability for our people to travel as freely as possible and for the ability of people to be able to make a good living as a result of tourism." Statement by the White House Press Secretary - President Bush to Welcome Prime Ministers of The Bahamas, Barbados, and Belize (March 12, 2008)

President Bush will welcome Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham of The Bahamas, Prime Minister David Thompson of Barbados, and Prime Minister Dean Barrow of Belize to the White House on March 20, 2008.  The Bahamas, Barbados, and Belize are longstanding friends of the United States and countries with whom we share deep social and familial ties as well as the values of democracy and respect for human rights.  The President looks forward to discussing a range of issues--including strengthening democracy in the region, increasing social and trade ties, cooperating on security and crime, and improving the lives of the region's citizens--with these new Caribbean leaders, all of whom have been democratically elected within the past year.

On March 11, Mrs. Gwynneth A. Dieter, wife of U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter, officially opened a Women's History Month Art Exhibit at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development in Belmopan. 

Mrs. Dieter, in her opening remarks, said, "we are reminded of the strong and infuential role women have had throughout history and the role they can play in the future.  I hope that young women will be inspired by the example of these artists and that young men will expand their appreciation of the strength and capability of women."  (more)

 




Black History Month Poster Show Celebration (February 20, 2008)

On February 20, U.S. Ambassador Robert J. Dieter officially opened a poster show exhibit celebrating Black History Month at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development in Belmopan.

"February marks the beginning of Black history month, a celebration honoring the contributions the black community has made to the United States and to the world.  Many of these achievements would not have been possible without the educational opportunities presented by Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which is the theme of this year's celebration and featured on the display boards.  These panels highlight the tremendous influence these educational institutions have made by developing outstanding graduates who continue to provide inspiration and leadership in the United States and throughout the world," said Ambassador Dieter.  (more)
